New for You!!!!!

January 28, 2009

As many of you know I love movies. Most of my collection is on VHS! It doesn’t skip and you can fast forward without that annoying red block thing that forces you to read the FBI warning, blah blah blah….

Just picked up “Moonstruck” I forgot how great that was. Cher, Nic Cage, Danny A and more….great cast… great story… maybe it’s just the Italian theme…

Ciao,

Lisa

First it’s time to WINTERIZE! The car, the house, the garden….

I still have no Halloween costume, except for the naughty nurse. Maybe I’ll be a vampire gypsy zombie!

I have several fundraisers coming up to benefit Spay and Neuter Syracuse aka SANS and I’ll be posting the details soon!

Remember to log on to news10now.com and go to Pet Pointers! I have several great segments coming up on topics ranging from housebreaking tips to pets and pregnancy.

Bring your pets inside on nasty raw days they deserve to be warm too.

What I DID on my vacation…..

September 16, 2008

Vacations are a great thing…and for me, my recent one allowed me to pay a visit to one of my favorite places, Indianapolis…specifically, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall Of Fame and Museum.

Thought I’d share some photos with all of you….

This is the famous Borg Warner trophy that sits on a rotating platform in the museum…a smaller version of this permanent trophy goes to the winner of each 500…

This car looks like a cross between a car and an airplane…in fact, it’s the Marmon Wasp, and driven by Ray Harroun, it won the first EVER Indy 500 in 1911…this car’s not only notable for being the first Indy winner, but also for having a (for 1911) new invention in automotive technology attached:  A rearview mirror (invented by Harroun to get around not having a riding mechanic, as most race cars of the era were two seaters with a mechanic who rode with the driver).

This is one of the infamous ‘turbocars’ owned by Andy Granatelli, who fielded them in 1967/68.  This is the 1968 car that like its predecessor the year before, nearly won the race (a small part failure sidelined the car before the finish).

Had one of the ‘turbocars’ or ‘whooshmobiles’ as they were called (because of the sound that they made) won the race, it would have spelled the extinction of the normal engine at the Brickyard.

While I was there, I also paid a visit to the US Nationals drag racing event at O’Reilly Raceway Park.  TV does not do Top Fuel and Funny Car dragsters justice, you have to see one of these events in person to appreciate how fast, LOUD, and ground pounding these cars truly are.

This is Ashley Force’s Funny Car (she qualified for final eliminations, daddy John didn’t).

One other picture to share (sorry, I did get to meet him, but didn’t get any shots with him)…from the World Figure 8 Championship…

This is the car that Jesse James of ‘Monster Garage’ fame brought to race…if you want to see his full adventure at the event, watch for his new show to debut on Spike TV in February of 2009.

This, that, and other things…

August 18, 2008

Been very busy lately what with getting ready for Fireworks Over CNY and all…so my apologies for not blogging lately…

Here now, a collection of random thoughts, listed randomly for your random reading pleasure…

-I’ve spent some time helping to promote the Utica Yard Dogs, the new semipro football team in the area, and I’m glad to see them doing well…for those of you who feel jaded about high priced pro athletes, check these guys out, because they’re playing because they LOVE it, not because of a paycheck…’cause the league they’re in doesn’t pay anyone to play.  The web site is www.uticayarddogs.com

-On a related note, a while back, I helped to announce a Roller Derby contest featuring the Utica Clubbers, the new local team starting up (hoping to have regular games in the fall of the year)…and again, it’s another group of people (women this time) doing something because they love it, not because they get big bucks for it…

-There’s a couple of common threads running through these two groups…people doing something that they love…and doing something that gives the REST of us something to do…so if you have a free Saturday to go check out a Yard Dogs game, GO…and if you see a Roller Derby event featuring our Clubbers doing their thing against a team from, say, Syracuse or Albany…GO…

-Will someone PLEASE, PLEASE stop Kyle Busch from winning races!?!?!?  Anyone!?!?!?

-It’s funny how watching the Olympics gets you hooked on sports you’d never consider watching on TV otherwise (water polo, team handball, badminton, kayaking), but the minute they’re over, you forget about them…

Rock on!

New Pet Peeves

July 15, 2008

1. Pronunciation of the word “chipotle,” the Tex-Mex chili spice that I’m not fond of anyway.  It’s supposed to be Chi-POTE-lay. Not Chi-POLL-tay. Look at the spelling!

2. The prizes in boxes of Cracker Jack SUCK compared to the old days. And I can’t believe Gomez doesn’t like the peanuts…the best part of Cracker Jack!

What’s America coming to ??!?

I like Who…do you know Who?

July 3, 2008

I’ll be the first to admit that when I get ‘into’ something, I really get ‘into’ it…like my favorite bands…now, that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be stalking any rock stars anytime soon, but as an example…I can tell you pretty much anything you’d want to know about any song in the Beatles catalog (who wrote it, how such and such on the song was recorded, where the idea came from)….you get the point.

One of the things that I’ve loved since I was in the 5th grade is the British sci fi show ‘Doctor Who’.  Like many in the USA, I discovered it when my local PBS affiliate picked it up…suddenly, I was drawn into the world of this guy with a floppy hat, a ton of curly hair, and a LLLLOOOONNNGGGG scarf who was funny, snarky, smarter than you and anyone else in the room, and had this incredible passion to make things just and right, even if that wasn’t the ‘prettiest’ solution to a problem…

Now, after gracing the British airwaves from 1963 to 1989, the series is enjoying a revival with new episodes…with a 4th season of new stuff about to conclude across the pond (SciFi channel’s about 3 weeks behind the BBC’s airing of the show, so we’re about 4 episodes away from the end of the season).

You can be a ‘Trekkie’ or a ‘Star Wars’ fan if you like…I’ll take the guy who travels time and space in a blue box that’s bigger on the inside than the outside.

Talking Dogs?

July 2, 2008

You nay have heard the talking dog on the show this week. You can find a link to you tube on our page. Once you get there, look at all the other talking, screaming and freaking out pets. Very funny yet disturbing!

On another note, always be nice to your pets! Have them Spay or Neutered and never leave a pet of any kind in a car when it’s hot outside!!! They will die! A car can become deadly in just a few short minutes!!!!!!
